Public Relations Final Portfolio
For This project, we had to include several different common public relations practices such as several PSA's, Op'ed pieces, Crisis and Press Release, and a resume which I chose to remove since I have one included on the home page. The first two were orientated around the idea it was Christmas time and to encourage safety and good behavior. I did an op'ed on the driving age to be increased, and ends with a mock crisis press release for an oil company. This was an independent project.

SOUTH DAKOTA DOESN’T WANT THE SNOW TO RUIN YOUR HOLIDAY SEASON
This public service announcement by the South Dakota Board of Travel is being broadcasted for the people of South Dakota to raise awareness about the road closure due to winter storms this holiday season. Effective immediately the state will take necessary action to close down roads that are harshly affected by the inclimate weather to ensure the safety of the states residents. This policy is statewide, and will focus on areas in larger population, and along I-90. This policy will shut down and refuse travel for people, for the state does not want to advise, or allow travel on roads that the state deems dangerous to the traveler. Take precautions, and plan your trips this holiday season carefully.

BE JOLLY THIS CHRISTMAS WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE SANTA
This public service announcement is going out to all of those are looking forward to spending time with family eating great food over the holiday season. Though everyone should enjoy the food passed around the table, it is important to not forget about overindulgence and the importance of staying healthy. Once Christmas rolls around it is tempting and easy to cave into the wonderful meals that are surely offered, and part of many traditions. Anyone anywhere who has the intention of celebrating and gathering with family to celebrate should take this into consideration. It is a fun, important part of the holidays to experience the feast, although so is your health and maintaining smart diet over this season can ensure you will feel much better once it is all over. Everybody have a safe and happy holidays and new year.
I believe that the legal driving age in the state of South Dakota should be raised from 14 to 16. In this op-ed piece I will go over several key reasons that will shine a light on to why I take such a stance on the issue. This isn’t just an opinion for opinion's sake, it is for the safety of the people who live in our state and wanting to ensure everybody on the road can feel comfortable about their fellow drivers.
To begin, many 14 year olds frankly do not have the patience or ability to focus on something as serious as driving. Many kids that age would likely take more risks by texting, speeding, or taking chances other experienced more mature drivers would not. Some might find this to be an unfair assumption towards people that age, but it is fairly widely known that 14 year olds are not one to have the best judgement. I feel like I can put this in the same area on the opposite side. I would feel just as uncomfortable if a 90 year old person was cruising down the interstate at 80 mph. This is not being ageist, this is simply finding that certain people lack the cognitive ability to operate heavy machinery in what can be highly populated areas of the state. When you consider 5pm traffic, or slick conditions, which are not always things that are practiced during the actual driving test (I know this from personal experience). These are factors that require someone to be completely alert and able to adapt, which unfortunately I would argue most 14 year olds lack it to a credible level.
Another large reason behind this opinion, that frankly comes out to be one of the biggest redflags in how this is a problem, is that South Dakota is one of the very few, as in one of roughly 6 states that have a minimum driving age of 14. Only several other states allow kids this young to operate a vehicle at that age. Being a 14 year old means that at most you are a freshman in highschool. You are taking the most rudimentary of classes, yet according to the state you are completely reliable to be behind the wheel of a full fledged car. This 14 year old just got out of middle school, have you ever looked at what a freshman in highschool looks like? They look as though some of them can barely look over the steering wheel. They won’t even graduate highschool for another 4 years. There is no logical reason why someone who just a year ago was a 12 year old to get behind the wheel.
To wrap it all up, it seems incredibly irresponsible for the state to allow such a thing to jeopardize the safety of our roads by for some unfathomable reason find it safe and necessary to be okay with something like this. At least at the age of 16 there is an increase of awareness and how rules of the road and safety are an enormous part of responsibility on the road.
It has come to our attention that one of our plants in Texas has had an explosion in which we have unfortunately lost three of our employees to this tragic accident, and several others are wounded. We are still assessing this incident and are doing everything in our power to control this situation.
Within the next 24 hours we intend to isolate the damage and ensure that nothing dangerous spreads beyond the area. We already have a large portion of our company working to figure out what led to this incident, and what can be done further to prevent this type of problem to occur again. The area is being investigated, and all of our other facilities are under investigation in efforts to thwart this from happening in any of our other facilities.
To the families of the victims we express our deepest condolences to the loss of valued employees, and friends. To all of the first responders, firefighters, and police, we thank you for your bravery and diligence in controlling the situation from getting more out of hand then it already has. To our dear employees, it is our mission to make sure nothing like this ever occurs again, and that you all feel safe working for us in our facilities. Safety is a top priority, and knowing now that we have put not only our employees, but the great people who live in the surrounding area in danger. We will put all our effort into maximizing safety for everybody to make this a comfortable environment, and learn from this unfortunate occurrence.

Strategic Communications Final Project
Below is the Strategic Communications Final Project. For this, myself, Bennett Fierro, and Emma Roach chose to create a new campaign for a product that failed or isn't doing well. I came up with the idea for using Quibi, and we all formed the situational analysis and goal. I then worked with my group on some of the communication objectives, the timeline, product analysis, and I did the entire budget on my own. We presented this to our professor and class.
